Arribas: "The team has been competing and has been focused in every match for a couple of months"
Alejandro Arribas was the centre of attention this morning in Abegondo’s press room. Regarding Saturday’s match in Ipurua (6:30pm, Bein Sports) he stated, “now every match is on a par. It’s complicated to get three points. Eibar is very strong at home; it’s a small pitch in which many goals are usually scored. They can get a goal in at any moment”.
Therefore, the Deportivista central defender said, “we have to be aware. We’re very keen and let’s see if we can bring back three points”.
Referring to Dépor’s 2017 results (no defeats but no victories either, Arribas believes that “we are competing in every match. The league began so-so, and for a couple of months now, the team is very good, it’s playing well and above all, it’s competing and focused in every match. The other day we drew, and we’re increasing our points. We haven’t lost this year yet and hopefully we can keep this up on Saturday”.
Arribas then reminded everyone that at the end of the first round “we’re at a reasonable distance from the drop zone which is the objective. The team had its highs and lows at the beginning of the season, good matches along with bad matches. In the last two months, the team may play better or worse, but it’s always focused in every match, it’s always competing, it’s gaining points. It hasn’t lost for several games. We hope to stay that way”.
According to Arribas, the 19 points show that “the team is good. It’s playing well, it’s getting results. Not losing means the team is good. We have to carry on this way, and try to improve the details the boss outlines”.
Regarding the teams at the bottom of the table, he insisted “we are performing better than them. We’re several points above them. They have to be more worried than us. We have to carry on the same track and achieve 42 points, and if we get 42 points, I’m sure that those at the bottom will achieve less”.
He confessed that on Saturday’s match against Eibar “we hope to break this negative streak of not being able to win away. We’re going to try in Ipurua. It’s a good ground. The boss knows it well. If we win, I’m sure he’ll be twice as happy”.
On a personal note, he admitted he is “very happy. We all work every day to get picked for the weekend. I was chosen the last two matches. For me, every match is as if it were my last. I have to demonstrate that I can play in the next match. I have to keep on working”.
