Our coach, Gaizka Garitano, explained in this morning’s press conference, that he is taking 19 players to face Alavés in the first leg of the Copa last 16 tomorrow (9:15pm, Riazor, Bein Sports), because “we have some players that are doubtful for tomorrow’s game”.

Gaizka also assured the press, “LaLiga is our livelihood and what feeds us, but we’re also excited to be in the last knockout stages of the Copa. We don’t want to squander it either. We proved we want to progress in this competition against Betis”.

Referring to Borja Valle he said, “he’s here due to the team’s circumstances. We have to make a complete list of players for matches every three or four days. We don’t want anyone to leave for now”.

He asks for patience in reference to possible reinforcements: “You know this market is very complicated. We have to think more about the ones we have, focus on getting the most out of them, and if someone comes, we will incorporate them as time goes on. We need patience because it is a very complicated market in all aspects”.

Garitano’s opinion about Alavés is the following: "They are doing things very well. It’s a very solid and well worked rival. They can play with four or five at the back. They concede very few away goals. They have a very well designed squad, a mixture of veteran players with Primera División experience, and youngsters such as Theo, Llorente…who are currently creating a name for themselves in Spanish football and will be important players in the future”.

He predicts that “the tie will be decided in Mendizorroza. Let’s see if we can get through". He joked with the journalists when he confessed he’d travel to Vitoria more relaxed for the second leg “with 6-0 or 7-0. The tie will be decided in Mendizorroza and we’ll try to get a good result here”.
