05/09/2017 21:46

Today (the early hours of Wednesday morning in Spain), Celso Borges and Fede Valverde will play in San José (Costa Rica) and Asunción (Paraguay).

With Schär already in Abegondo, Andone, Pantilimon and Tytoń are expected to arrive today.

Celso Borges will receive Mexico with Costa Rica

Today, Celso Borges and his national team (Costa Rica) will face Mexico (Estadio Nacional de San José, 8:05 pm, local time), one of the favourites to qualify for the 2018 Russia World Cup.

Last Friday, Celso Borges triumphed over USA (0-2) with Costa Rica at the Bull Arena in Harrison (New Jersey).

The Deportivista midfielder played the whole 90 minutes of the Ticos’ well-rounded game.

As some media in Costa Rica point out, if Celso Borges plays against Mexico, he will become the first Costa Rican to have played the most World Cup qualifying matches, with a total of 43 appearances.

The Branquiazul midfielder has already played over 100 matches for Costa Rica.

Fede Valverde in Paraguay

The Uruguayan Football Federation have called Fede Valverde for their encounters to qualify for the 2018 Russia World Cup, in which La Celeste played Argentina and have to face Paraguay.

This is the first time the national side have called the young Branquiazul midfielder, who was awarded the Silver Ball in 2017 U20 World Cup, in which Uruguay reached the semi-finals.

Today, the Uruguayans will play Paraguay (8 pm local time, 2 am on Wednesday 6 in Spain), at the Estadio Defensores del Chaco de Asunción, in the country’s capital.

Last Thursday, La Celeste faced Argentina in Montevideo. The match was a deadlock (0-0), and the Deportivista midfielder did not get the chance to make his debut with his national side.

Uruguay currently occupy the third position in South America’s qualifying stage with 24 points. The first four will go straight to compete in Russia, whilst the fifth will have to play against Oceania’s champion, and the winner of this game will also play in the World Cup.

Andone and Pantilimon lose in Montenegro

Yesterday, Romania, with Andone in the starting eleven and Pantilimon on the bench, lost 0-1 in Montenegro to qualify for the 2018 Russia World Cup.

The Deportivista striker came off in the 64th minute for Alexandru Baluta.

The Romanians are fourth in the European qualifying Group E with 9 points, 7 points from the second position and with two games left to play, therefore they no longer have the option of being in Russia next summer.

Florin Andone lined up for Romania in their World Cup qualifying match against Armenia at the National Arena in Bucharest. The Romanians grabbed a winner in the 90th minute (1-0) thanks to a goal by Maxim.

The Deportivista striker played the whole match and had a few good chances to score. Goalkeeper Pantilimon, who signed for Dépor that same day, was a substitute.

Tytoń did not make it into Poland's list

Poland, with the Deportivista goalkeeper Przemysław Tytoń in the stands, beat Kazakhstan 3-0 yesterday at the National Stadium in Warsaw, to qualify for the 2018 Russia World Cup.

Poland are at the top of Group E with 19 points, and have a 3-point advantage over Montenegro and Denmark with 16 points each.

Deportivista goalkeeper Tytoń did not make it into Poland’s list for their match against Denmark at the Telia Park in Copenhagen. The Danish thrashed Poland 4-0.

Fabian Schär played in Riga and is back in A Coruña

Fabian Schär played for Switzerland against Latvia, who are bottom of the group, and won 0-3 last Sunday.

The Branquiazul defender played the entire match and returned to Coruña yesterday.

The Swiss have 24 points and sit at the top of Group B of the European Qualifiers for the World Cup, with Portugal 3 points behind in second place.

Deportivista central defender, Fabian Schär started for Switzerland in their win against Andorra at the Kybunpark in St Gallen (3-0).

Schär played the whole match in which the state of the pitch stole the limelight as it was completely waterlogged due to the heavy rainfall in St Gallen.
