Mel: “The staff and footballers owe everyone who’s supported us this year a lot”

Pepe Mel stated in Abegondo’s press room that “the coaching staff and the squad owe everyone who has supported us all year round, and was expecting more and unfortunately we haven’t delivered. Often, what’s important in football is finishing off with good sensations”.

He highlighted he understands the Deportivistas: “As a fan I expected more from this Dépor. It’s our debt, only the coaches, when I say coaches I mean the staff, and the players. We have to try and make the people think in three matches that the team finally performed well”.

However, I urge the fans “to be reasonable if we stick to the standings. Surely nobody outside Coruña thinks Dépor is going to get into a sticky situation. But the fact is, like life itself, when things aren’t sealed, and they’re not sealed and they’re not sealed, there is always that margin that causes unease”.

For this reason, the Deportivista coach believes that tomorrow’s encounter in Riazor against Espanyol (6:30 pm, Bein Sports), “is an exam for everyone. And beyond the result, I would like to come out of the game with the sensation that people have worked well and performed well”. Moreover, “tomorrow is important for us in order to leave everything ready and change the whole Club’s mood”, he added.

Regarding tomorrow’s rival, Pepe Mel said, “It’s a very complicated team. In my opinion, even more complicated when they play away. It favours their way of facing matches. They have two very close lines of 4, with 2 up front. They transition well forwards and backwards, all together. They have good set-pieces with Jurado, Piatti, Reyes... Very fast players up front, Leo (Baptistao), Gerard...”
