Pepe Mel believes that after beating Alavés, “the players see they can do it”

Deportivista coach, Pepe Mel, assured everyone in Abegondo's press room this morning, “we know what to expect against Espanyol”, tomorrow in the RCDE Stadium (12 pm, Bein LaLiga).

He explained that tomorrow’s rival “play very close together, with a 4-4-2 formation, with no space between the lines, and they play the ball fast from the back. We have to be very good at marking and in the transitions. Celta lost because of two actions where they didn’t control the ball in the midfield. The speed of players like Piatti, Leo Baptistao and Gerard is lethal”.

Pepe Mel warned that there will be some changes compared to last Wednesday’s line-up at the Estadio ABANCA-RIAZOR against Alavés: “We made three points. We’re thinking about all the possibilities, people who are knackered, people who had some sort of problem. I’m sure there will be some sort of change”.

In the Branquiazul coach’s opinion, and after our first league win, “it’s always easier to do things after a positive result. The player regains confidence in what he’s doing”.

He recalled that against Alavés, “we began edgy, which is normal because we hadn’t won yet. Bit by bit we improved, and I think we played the second half very well, and we also ended the first half well. In the end, we were better than Alavés. We should have won with a more comfortable result, but in the end, we won. That gives you confidence. The players see they can do it. I’m sure the only thing that can happen is for us to improve”.

Despite the team being in the drop zone, Pepe Mel urges everyone “to leave the standings to one side for now. It’s obvious that if you’ve only made 4 points out of the 15 that have been played, you're not going to be very high. What we have to try and do is make many more points in the next five matches, instead of 4. There’s nothing else to it”.
