Pepe Mel wants the players to be cold-blooded and to play with their heads

Pepe Mel expects that tomorrow's game at the Estadio ABANCA-RIAZOR against Alavés (9 pm, Gol) will be “edgy, because urgent situations arise quickly in professional football. After the 5th fixture, there would be 33 left, then we would be in a rush to do things well. I don’t dispute that. That’s the way it is. I’m expecting a match with nerves. I hope we keep calm and not forget that this is a football match. Whoever does things the best will have more of a chance of gaining points”.

He insisted that “both teams need to win. I hope that we are more cold-blooded, we keep calm and that we play with our heads, that’s what we must do. Our heart is good but our it's our head that has to rule”.

The Branquiazul coach stated “we need to play with the intensity that is required in a match like this. We can’t give anything away”.

Asked about Fede Cartabia's goal celebration hugging him last Saturday in Seville, he replied “it proves that the team is united now and that we’re a family. We need results because everyone trains better when things are going well”.

He knows what the team's problem is: “We concede a lot of goals. A team that concedes as many goals as we do needs to reach the end of the season with 70 goals in favour. That’s the bloodbath we have to stop”. “We have to improve our defence. Then there are small details that are large in football and they make you lose points. For example, we had 4 counter-attacks in Seville and we didn't choose wisely. Guardado was superb, he gave an excellent pass and won the match. Betis’ only shot at goal”, he added.
