Schär closer to the World Cup and Celso Borges’ Costa Rica seal their spot

Two Deportivo players (Celso Borges and Fabian Schär) had international commitments yesterday with Switzerland and Costa Rica.

Florin Andone, Pantilimon and Tytoń will play today with Romania and Poland.

Fabian Schär, a regular for Switzerland

Switzerland and Deportivista Fabian Schär, have two official games in October to qualify for the 2018 Russia World Cup.

Yesterday, the Swiss, with Schär in the starting eleven, received Hungary at the St Jacob-Park stadium in Basel. They won 5-2 and the Branquiazul defender played 90 minutes.

Switzerland are current Group B leaders with 27 out of 27 points. They are followed by Portugal who are 3 points behind. On Tuesday 10 October, Switzerland will visit Portugal, at 7:45 pm (local time), at the Estadio da Luz in Lisbon.

Celso Borges and Costa Rica qualify for the World Cup

Celso Borges, one of Deportivo’s captains and one of Costa Rica’s regulars, qualified with his national team for the 2018 Russia World Cup.

Yesterday, Costa Rica with Celso Borges in the starting eleven, gained the point they needed (1-1) against Honduras at the Estadio Nacional in San José.

The Deportivista midfielder played the entire game.

Costa Rica are second with 16 points in the CONCACAF standings, behind Mexico who have 21 points and have already qualified for the World Cup. USA are third with 12 points. The first three will go through directly to the World Cup, something Mexico and Costa Rica have already mathematically achieved. USA however, will have to certify their place the next match in Trinidad and Tobago.

On Tuesday 10 October, Costa Rica will visit Panama (7 pm local time, early hours of the morning in Spain) at the Estadio Rommel Fernández in Panama City.

Poland will face Montenegro

Today, the Polish side will play their last group match by hosting Montenegro at Warsaw's National Stadium, at 6 pm.

Poland are current Group E leaders with 22 points, followed by Montenegro and Denmark (both with 19 points, hence they are a step away from holding the first spot and going to Russia.

Last Thursday, the Deportivista goalkeeper was dropped against Armenia, Poland’s first international match this month, where they won 1-6.

Romania with Andone and Pantilimon will visit Denmark

Today, Romania will visit Denmark (6 pm, local time) at the Telia Parken stadium in Copenhagen.

Romania are fourth in Group E with 12 points. Poland are the current leaders with 22 points, followed by Montenegro and Denmark (both with 16 points), hence Romania can no longer qualify for the World Cup.

Last Thursday, Florin Andone formed part of Romania's line-up at the Ilie Oanâ stadium in Ploiesti, against Kazakhstan, in which the Romanians won 3-1. He played 66 minutes and came off for C. Keseru.

Pantilimon was on the bench.

Uruguay, with Fede Valverde, drew against Venezuela

Deportivista Fede Valverde was called to play for Uruguay once more, for two official games to qualify for the next World Cup.

Last Thursday, Uruguay drew against Venezuela (0-0), at the Estadio Polideportivo Pueblo Nuevo in San Cristobal.

The Deportivista midfielder was in the starting eleven and played 79 minutes, coming off for De Arrascaeta.

Uruguay is in second position with 28 points, 10 points behind group leaders Brazil, who have 38 points. Colombia are third with 26 points, and Peru and Argentina both have 25 points. The first four will go straight to compete in Russia, whilst the fifth will have to play against Oceania’s champion, and the winner of this match will also play in the World Cup.

On Tuesday 10 October, Uruguay will receive Bolivia (8:30 pm local time, early hours of the morning in Spain) at the Estadio Centenario in Montevideo.
