Álex Bergantiños said farewell to Deportivo this afternoon. He did it accompanied by the Board Advisor Daniel Ramos, the Sporting Director, Richard Barral, the Chief Scout, Ernesto Bellos, Team Delegate Juan Ángel Barros, the Corporate Director, José González-Dans, his teammates Mosquera, Albentosa, Juanfran, Fede Cartabia and Saúl, and of course, the chairman Tino Fernández, who opened the press conference: “We're here to say to our captain see you soon, a great Deportivista, a great footballer, a friend, who from tomorrow will begin a new stage in his career with Sporting de Gijón”.

He first spoke about Laure who went to Alcorcón last week, and after apologising for not being able to accompany the right-back in his press conference, he highlighted that both Laure and Álex are “very special people”.

Tino Fernández explained that Álex Bergantiños’ contract with Dépor has been renewed for another season and that “from this moment he is on loan to Sporting de Gijón for a year. It's a great club in Spain, that’s going to fight to return to first division, and that has reinforced itself with one of the best players it can, with one of the best players for that competition”.

He wished for him to fulfil his objectives and for “Sporting to be able to compete those ‘half-derbies’ against Deportivo again, and that are important for Deportivo and Sporting fans”.

Álex Bergantiños highlighted that “it’s not a pleasant moment for me because you always want to be here, in the team that’s given me everything. I grew up going to Riazor, for me Deportivo has given me everything. But I think I’m more useful leaving now. There's a great squad, the team is growing. There are four spectacular players in my position. I think the best thing is to step aside and try to enjoy football a little”.

Regarding Gijón, he said, “it’s a similar city to A Coruña. For me and my family it’s a good step. In that aspect, it’s convenient for all of us. I’m pleased with the Clubs confidence, and everyone who is here. It's a moment to take that step and see what the future holds”.

Álex noted “I’ll follow Dépor from a distance but I will be in complete contact with my teammates, who I will follow every day”.

He confessed that he had been pondering whether to leave last Christmas, “now Fede Valverde has arrived (who seems spectacular), three pivots with great experience; I don’t want to get in the way. The coach also told me I was going to have few options. One has to be conscious of one's situation. Sometimes taking a step like this is also important”.
