Carles Gil: "I had other offers, but I was dead set on coming back"
Carles Gil was the centre of attention in Abegondo’s press room this morning. On loan from Aston Villa until the end of the season, the Deportivista forward spoke about his return to Dépor: “Everyone knew I was very happy here, very happy last year, that my intention was to return. I had other offers, but I was dead set on coming back”.
He highlighted that Dépor “has placed a lot of faith in me. I already know the Club, the fans, my teammates, the city. That’s why I decided to come back here”.
He hopes that injuries give him less of a hard time this season: “Last year I had a groin injury, which is quite a dreadful injury. It comes and you don’t know when it’s going to stop. Most of the time you don’t know why it comes. Fortunately, I’m much better”. He insisted in his desire to “be able to give my one hundred percent at training, to be able to give my one hundred percent when playing. Not having to give just 70 per cent, which was what happened in many games last year. And for it to depend on me”, he added.
Referring to the group, Carles highlighted that “we know we have to do much better than last year. Try not to suffer. Have a comfortable season. Then try to steal the show, which at the end of the day is what we want. For people to speak well of us, for our fans to be excited. We want all of that and it’s our objective”.
Asked about the pre-season, the branquiazul midfielder replied, “the idea is to start gaining the maximum pace possible. That’s why we’re pushing ourselves with double sessions, lots of games. The sensations are good”.
