Carles Gil: “I’m ready”
Carles Gil, who was ruled fit to play, spoke to the press in Abegondo this morning. “I’m very happy, it’s something I’ve been expecting for a long time, after everything I’ve been through with this injury. Finally, I’m seeing a small light at the end of the tunnel,” he stated.
He preferred to be cautious when asked about his future: “You never know with this injury. Nothing is for sure. You always have to be doing preventive work, exercises. Many times, people are operated and it’s not the solution. Fortunately, that hasn’t been my case. I feel really good, without pain and I hope that’s it.”
Ahead of Sunday’s game against Athletic Club, at the Estadio ABANCA-RIAZOR (12 pm, Bein LaLiga), he insisted, “I feel really good. I’ve been training with the group for several days, and I have good sensations. Logically, I lack pace from being out for so long. The truth is, I’m ready.”
The Deportivista forward referred to his recovery process, where "nobody can take away those two and a half months”: “I’ve done a good job. Including the Medical Staff, Fran Molano (Rehab Fitness Coach) who have helped me a lot. I’m very happy with how the recovery went.”
From all this time out, he recalls how much he “looked forward to playing or training every time I saw my teammates. Thank God I’m training with them.” He confessed that for this reason, “I could hardly watch the matches. I wanted to jump. It’s normal. It happens to everyone when we’re out for so long.”
He highlighted that the support he received from the team “was huge, from the medical staff as well as the coaching staff, my teammates, who I’ve known for a year and a bit. They have helped me a lot since my operation, and they helped me a lot with the recovery. These kinds of injuries have a psychological part that also needs to recover.”
Regarding Sunday’s game, Carles Gil believes, “we need a victory to confirm the sensations, which have been good in the last few games. In the end, we live off of results. It’s a fitting match to gain 3 points and climb positions.”
He described Athletic as a team “that has been playing very similar the past few years. They’ve changed the coach and they’re the team that crosses the most in the league, they have Aduriz who for me, is the best header player in LaLiga. We know they’re an intense team. We know what we have to do to counteract all of this and to play our game.”
Asked about Dépor’s position in the league, Carles Gil insisted, “we’re working very well. The coach has instilled concepts in us that are going to do us good. He hasn’t been with us long. I’m sure that the work we’re doing will be reflected on the pitch.”
