Emre Çolak was the centre of attention in Abegondo’s press room this morning.

Aided by his interpreter Batu, the Turkish footballer said, “The team is doing well. I’m very happy”.

He believes Deportivo has improved these last matches “because we know each other more, we play together more, and we play well. We’re used to each other”.

There is no talk of letting their guard down for the Copa del Rey match against Betis on Wednesday, 21 December in Riazor (9pm): “Every match is important for us. We want to get through to the next round of the Copa”.

On a personal level, Çolak assures he has a lot of self-confidence, “I’m improving each day. I feel good here. The more I play, the more confidence I have. I really want to help the team improve”.

He confessed he spends more time working out after the training sessions to improve his fitness level: “When a footballer plays, his pace improves, and I am improving this”.

When asked about Babel’s situation, Çolak replied, “the entire team wants him to stay with us. Me too. I hope he stays”.

He then plucked up the courage to sing in front of the press what the fans chanted at Babel when he was substituted yesterday: “Babel Stay!”.
