Fede Cartabia was the centre of attention in Abegondo this morning. He admitted “we needed to win. We were having a negative streak where we would play well some phases and others not. Luckily, we beat Getafe. Now, a peaceful week, work, correct mistakes and continue learning. Then we have three important games”.

In fact, he urged to “look at Eibar’s match, focus on it and then whatever comes next. They're three games that if we gain some points we will climb and be calmer on an individual level as well as a collective one”.

He explained that last week the players had a “normal” week: “The results weren’t good and the atmosphere was a little anxious. We were very calm. We knew it was going to be a difficult game. It began uphill. Luckily, we won”.

He preferred not to make an opinion on whether the coach would have been fired had they not triumphed in their last league match: “The coach isn’t the only one to blame, all of us are, the Board as well as the players and everything that surrounds us”.

He highlighted that Deportivo against Getafe “didn’t concede any goals and we netted in the chances we had. They had two attempts and scored one. Getafe is a tough team that fouls again and again. Luckily we were able to score twice. We played good football for practically the whole match. We created a lot of chances. Their goalkeeper was the best. Luckily, the last one went in”.

In fifteenth position, Fede Cartabia believes the team has to “take each match as it comes along. We were having a bad run. Now we have to make the most of our win and we’re on a roll. We’re going to Eibar; a very complicated game. They have lost several games too. Let’s hope we win. We want to climb higher, obviously”.

On a personal level, one of Pepe Mel’s regulars, admitted, “my idea was this. Play everything, be an important player. I feel very good. I want to keep growing to help the team. Let’s hope we carry on like this and win”.

Compared to the first Fede Cartabia we saw three seasons ago, he said “I’m more mature now. I’ve learnt a lot. Matches allow you to learn, to keep growing. Tactically, I’ve improved loads and as a result, my strengths stand out more”.

Regarding LaLiga Santander’s 8th fixture in Eibar (Sunday 15 October, 12 pm, Bein LaLiga), the Deportivista forward highlighted that “it’s going to be a very difficult game. They’ve also lost. We have to play our game and try to bring three points, because it’s about time we win an away game”.
