Ian Mackay Abad (A Coruña, 14 July 1986) has joined Real Club Deportivo for the next two seasons after ending his contract with CE Sabadell.

The goalkeeper from A Coruña, whose father is Scottish and mother from the Galician city, started playing football for Silva SD, where he was quickly recruited by Ural CF. At the age of 15, he was signed by RC Deportivo, to which he belonged for six seasons, from 2001 to 2007.

Mackay made his debut for Fabril while he was still a U19 player, in the 2004-2005 season. The following season he became Fabril's starting goalkeeper (28 games, 15 goals conceded) in a season which ended bitterly after losing the promotion in the playoffs to CD Cobeña. Mackay started the 2006-2007 Season with Fabril, but on the last day of the market he was transferred to AD Ceuta, from which he left in January to play for CD Universidad de Oviedo, teams in which he had gained experience in Spain's third tier competition, as he had only played in the fourth tier with Fabril, where he summed up 30 matches and only conceded 18 goals.

Furthermore, in the summer of 2006, he was summoned by Joaquín Caparrós to carry out the preseason with Dépor's first team in Isla Canela. Mackay then played several friendly matches with Deportivo, the most memorable one being the final of the 61st edition of the Teresa Herrera Trophy that the Branquiazuis won against AC Milan (3-1) with a great performance from the homegrown goalkeeper.

After doing another preseason with the first team, now under the orders of Miguel Ángel Lotina, he was transferred to UD Vecindario on the last day of the 2007 summer transfer market. In Gran Canaria, Mackay began a long career in Spain's third tier, where he played 12 seasons and 303 games (13 of them in the playoffs for promotion to Second Division), in which he received a total of 301 goals.

After a year and a half at SD Ciudad de Santiago (with which he achieved promotion from Third to Second B), Mackay headed for SD Ponferradina, with which he achieved the first of his two promotions to the second tier, and where he was also labeled a hero for saving the decisive penalty in the long shootout against UE Sant Andreu. After the Berciano team relegated in the following season, the A Coruña goalkeeper played one season at Atlético Baleares and started the next at CD Boiro, before signing for Racing de Ferrol, where he arrived in April 2014 due to all their goalkeepers being injured. Ian took root in the Ferrol formation. He was there for the end of that season and four more, in which he unsuccessfully played three promotion playoffs to Second and was relegated to Third Division in the last season. He played 138 games for Racing de Ferrol, in which he conceded 146 goals.

Ian Mackay then went on to play for Real Murcia (2018-2019) and CE Sabadell, where he achieved his other promotion to Second Division (in which he played 68 games) eight years later. Whilst on loan to CD Universidad de Oviedo, the keeper from A Coruña was called up by the Scottish U20 team, which he was unable to attend due to injury.
