Luisinho: If the team is solidary, we have a good enough squad to be further up
Luisinho spoke to the press in Abegondo this morning.
About tomorrow’s fundraising match, ‘Memorial Moncho Rivera’ against Brazilian side Corinthians, at the Estadio ABANCA-RIAZOR (8 pm, TVG), he indicated that “it’s a different match, there’s a trophy in play. It’s beautiful for us, for the city and to enjoy it a little”.
Despite last Saturday’s victory against Getafe, the Deportivista left-back warned that “we haven’t won anything yet. There are many problems to solve. We have these two weeks to work”.
Having admitted that the team “didn’t begin the league well”, Luisinho stated that “there’s only one way” to get the team back on track in la Liga Santander: “Working and believing in ourselves”.
The upcoming fixtures are “matches against direct rivals that we have to win. We’ve already won two, Alavés and Getafe; and we have to continue this streak. We have to gain points and, if possible, 3 by 3. It’s the only way to get out of the uncomfortable spot we’re in”.
He highlighted that “at least we have a squad to not suffer as much. I don’t like saying that we’re going to end eighth, twelfth... We have to take each match as it comes along. I’m realistic. I’ve watched all the teams and we’re not inferior to those above us. Now, we have to compete, every weekend; not one match yes and the next one no”.
In order to avoid conceding goals, the defender requested solidarity: “In a team like Deportivo, in a competition that demands a lot like the Spanish league, if the eleven players don’t defend, you’re going to have a rough time. And that’s reflected in the matches. Against Alavés we were solidary, against Getafe even more so. The results are there. The team has to be solidary from the first to the last minute. We know we have good players up front, but this isn’t enough. If the team isn’t united on the field, we’re going to find it hard. That’s the secret. If the team is solidary, we have a good enough squad to be further up".
On a personal note, Luisinho assured that he feels “good, with confidence. We have to continue working every day”. Loved by the Deportivismo, he confessed that he feels “important like any other teammate. I’m grateful to all the supporters for showing their affection, like they did last weekend and since the first day I arrived”.
