Natxo Gonzalez was “upset. When I see my teams like that, I’m the one responsible. I consider myself responsible for the match the team played here. My decision-making was not good for the match that was taking place. This is part of learning.”

He emphasized, “when a team goes out and plays the way they did, I consider myself responsible. That’s why I’m upset. I’ll now go over it a million times in my head, whether I had done this or that. They’re decisions you make. I’m not happy. This draw does not feel good at all.”

Furthermore, he believes “it would have made no difference today whether we had played with a diamond formation, a rectangular one, 5 at the back or 5 up front. There’s also the other football. And we didn’t do well there either. Knowing that Almeria, with their numbers at home, weren’t going to be easy. We knew what we were going to find. That’s why I feel responsible. I didn’t prepare the team.”

The Deportivista coach saw his team were “inferior in every sense, in the one-on-ones, the man-to-man marking. The plan was obviously not what we saw on the pitch.”

He tried making changes, two at half-time, “to improve something. We were overplayed in every sense. We tried to have a physically stronger midfield, try and be more intense and aggressive.”

Nonetheless, the Branquiazul coach drew something positive out of all of this: “Despite not being at our best, we got a draw. Because we’re Dépor and after a genius move by Fede, you get a point. And this can be decisive in the long run.”
