Ruben believes the team “fought and had clear ideas” yesterday

Ruben Martinez, one of the main protagonists of yesterday’s encounter against Sevilla FC, stated in Abegondo's press room this afternoon, that the goalless draw was “bittersweet because we played a good match. The rival was a very important rival. The 3 points were very important to put pressure on Levante, but we have to focus on the good because of the team we were playing and because, at the end of the day, we can carry on fighting. But in general, it was a bittersweet sensation.”

The Deportivista goalkeeper finished the match “something between disappointed and proud. The team fought, had clear ideas, we saw we could do good things. And that's what we’re still working on. We hope that from here to the end we have something to be very happy about.”

Asked about his brilliant performance, he pointed out, “when you don’t achieve the 3 points, even though a clean sheet is always positive, the sensation isn’t good. If the team were to win, then it would be completely satisfying. Thus, there’s nothing to be happy about from drawing in the situation we’re in.”

With hardly any time to rest, as the team play again on Friday (9 pm, Bein LaLiga) in Leganes, he stated that “even though we're not used to playing mid-week, the team so far have responded well. After playing Athletic Bilbao, which was a tough game, the team was physically well yesterday, against a team that’s used to playing mid-week. I think we’re going to be stronger on Friday. It’s better to have more days’ rest, but the fixtures are set and there’s nothing we can do. We have to adapt.”

Regarding his automatic renewal with Dépor, Ruben insisted that “it doesn’t mean anything because everything on a personal level is secondary. It’s not the time to be thinking about personal matters. What counts is the team and exploiting our chances as quickly as possible.”
