Fabian Schär spoke to the press in Abegondo this morning. He confessed that after having gained Switzerland’s ticket to the next World Cup, “it’s a great dream to go to Russia with my national squad. I’m very happy for that.”

He explained that “in Belfast we won 1-0 and we were the better team. In Basel it was a tougher match, on a more complicated field, with a lot of rain and a waterlogged pitch. In the end we get to go to Russia.”

He stated that now he has to concentrate on something else. He described Sunday’s upcoming match in Malaga (12:00 pm, Bein LaLiga) as “Very difficult”: “Both teams need the 3 points. But if we play as we have done these last few matches we have a big chance of gaining points.”

The Deportivista centre-back, referring to the Spanish league, highlighted that “matches are very fast, the players are very technical, they all like playing football. You have to be concentrated ninety minutes.”

Although he admits that he would like to score, he explained that “it’s not my main aim in the team. The most important thing is the team, that we gain points.”

When asked about the changes experienced in Dépor since Cristobal Parralo’s arrival on the Branquiazul bench, Schär stated that “the team trains very well during the week. The last match was very good. We’ve progressed a lot tactically, we defend and attack as a team. It’s very important.”

He agrees with Zakaria Bakkali, who, not long ago, stated that Dépor has a good enough team to be in the top ten in LaLiga: “We have the quality to do so. We’re not there yet. We need to work as we have done up to now, we need to gain points,” he said.
