Somma: “Dépor is a Club known throughout the whole of Europe. It’s an honour to be here”

Michele Somma (Salerno, Italy 16 March 1995) who has signed for Real Club Deportivo for the next two seasons, gave his first press conference in Abegondo this morning.

After posing for the photographers with the Branquiazul shirt on Abegondo’s main pitch, he then went to the press room, accompanied by the Club’s Sporting Director, Carmelo del Pozo, to answer the journalists’ questions.

When he arrived at Dépor he confessed he was met by “a very united, strong group. This is a great historic Club. I love the Training Centre, in Italy we don’t have training centres like this one, with so many pitches.”

After his debut in Ferrol’s Concepcion Arenal Trophy yesterday, the new Deportivista defender was very happy to play again “after a difficult summer as I did not have a team. I’ve been training by myself. This first match means a lot to me. They are the first minutes my legs have. It’s good for me. I’m recovering sensations and getting to feel like a player again.”

He described himself as a quick defender who plays the ball out of defence very well. He sees Italian defenders such as Cannavaro, Bonucci, Chiellini...as examples.

His objective this first season is “to gain a place in this team. I’m going to give my all and train as best as I can each day.”

He explained that this summer was not easy for him because “I trained with other players that were without a team in a pitch close to us. It was a difficult summer. I am mentally strong, and I tried to overcome this. I had signed for Bari, a historic team in Italy, and things went badly. The club disappeared.”

He admitted he had interesting offers in Italy, but “I loved Dépor’s project, a historic club, known throughout the whole of Europe. For me, it’s an honour to be here.”

This season, the Branquiazul defender expects the league to be “very complicated, with many strong teams.”

With Domingos out due to injury, and ahead of Saturday’s match in Tenerife (8:30 pm, LaLiga 1|2|3 TV), Somma assumes he will not be 100% fit to play: “I’m lacking something, although I’m mentally prepared. The coach will decide. I’m training hard and I’ll be 100% ready soon,” he concluded.
