Luisinho: “It’s normal that people are pissed off”

Luisinho picked up April’s Estrella Galicia Player of the Month award in Abegondo on Thursday. The winner is voted by the fans.
In his statement to the press, the blue-and-white left-back said, “we achieved our objective of staying in first division. It wasn’t like we expected, but the goal has been fulfilled. Now we have to start thinking about next season”. “If it had been another way it would have been better for everyone, but we know that the season was difficult”, he added.
He confessed that his knee injury came “at the worst time; when I was well; when I was helping the team. But my teammates achieved the objective and I’m very happy”.
Asked about the fans’ disappointment, Luisinho, who is one of the most adored players, replied: “I understand the criticism. The Club now has time to think deeply”.
Along these lines, the Deportivista defender is aware that “we didn’t finish the season well. The image we gave in the last matches wasn’t the best. It’s normal that people are pissed off. I understand perfectly, and we as professionals have to accept it”.
He was grateful for all the support he receives from the stands. He explained that that was why “it was quite a positive year. Things turned out well for me. That’s why I want to thank my teammates, the two coaches I had, both Garitano and Pepe Mel, who counted on me, and to the fans who have always stood by me. The objective of staying in first was fulfilled. Now it’s time to think deeply and whatever is best for Deportivo, we’ll be delighted”.
With one more year in his contract, Luisinho said “my desire was always to remain here. Last year was very difficult, they wanted me out of here. I always fought, with my family, to stay here. I’m not going to lie to you, I like the Club, I like the city, the fans have always stood by me. That's why I wish to continue here. But it doesn’t depend on me, it depends on everyone. My intention was always to stay”.
