Rubén de la Barrera Fernández (A Coruña, 18 January 1985) is, from today, Deportivo's new coach for the remainder of the season.

Along with the coach from A Coruña, José Manuel Martínez Paz 'Secho' will form part of his coaching staff as his assistant coach, and Julio Hernando as the fitness coach. Both men are returning to what had been their home; the first as a youth academy coach for nine seasons (2005-2013 and 2014-2015), and the latter as the first team fitness coach for 3 seasons (2016-2019).

De la Barrera, who will turn 36 next Monday, began his career as a coach at CD Villaralbo in the Third Division at the age of 25 after having passed through different amateur grassroot teams in Coruña.

CD Guijuelo (2013-2014 and 2015-2016) gave him his first opportunity to train in Second Division B, whilst also helping to train Real Valladolid's B team. His longest experience was as the head coach of Cultural y Deportiva Leonesa, with 91 games and a historic promotion to the Second Division.

After his time in León, he was Real Sociedad's assistant coach for half a season before being hired as head coach of Al-Ahli SC for 17 games and this season at FC Viitorul in Romania for 12 games.

Despite being from A Coruña, De la Barrera never firmed part of Real Club Deportivo, neither as a player nor as a coach, although he did wear the Branquiazul strip for a few days when he was an Under12. During a time when Deportivo only had and U18 side and no more grassroots teams, De la Barrera, who played for Ural CF, formed part of the Coruña team that represented Deportivo in the 4th edition of theTorneo Nacional Alevín Interclubes, mostly known as the Torneo de Brunete, in 1997.
