With this match, Celso Borges has become the footballer to have played the most World Cup qualifying matches in his country, with a total of 43 games.

The first three will get to go to Russia. Costa Rica has already secured at least fourth place, which gives them a ticket to a double-leg play-off against the fifth-ranked Asian team. The winner will also get to go to the World Cup.

Celso Borges is set to travel to A Coruña and is expected to arrive on Thursday morning.

Fede Valverde debuts with Uruguay and scores

The Uruguayan Football Federation have called Fede Valverde for their encounters to qualify for the 2018 Russia World Cup, in which La Celeste played Argentina and have to face Paraguay.

This is the first time the national side have called the young Branquiazul midfielder, who was awarded the Silver Ball in 2017 U20 World Cup, in which Uruguay reached the semi-finals.

The Uruguayans beat Paraguay 1-2 at the Estadio Defensores del Chaco de Asunción, in the country’s capital.

Fede Valverde was in the starting XI and played the entire match. In the 76th minute he scored the opener for Uruguay.

Last Thursday, La Celeste faced Argentina in Montevideo. The match was a deadlock (0-0), and the Deportivista midfielder did not get the chance to make his debut with his national side.

Uruguay currently occupies the third position in South America’s qualifying stage with 27 points. The first four will go straight to compete in Russia, whilst the fifth will have to play against Oceania’s champion, and the winner of this game will also play in the World Cup.

Our lad will land at A Coruña airport tomorrow at 5pm.
