Arribas: “We haven’t lived up to people’s expectations”
Referring to Sunday’s game against Osasuna in El Sadar (12 pm, Bein Sports), Arribas reminded everyone that “they have nothing to play for but they are complicated at home. There are teams that haven’t won there. Sporting nearly lost the other day, they had to come back from two goals down”.
This is why, the Deportivista central-defender insisted “people think it’s going to be simple, but it nothing like that; it’s going to very complicated. It’s a tricky game, because even though they are not playing for anything, it’s not going to be a walkover or anything like that. They’ve achieved good results at their ground, they’ve won games. It’s a complicated match, the crowd is breathing down your neck, supporting their team no matter what, until the end”.
Regarding the fact Osasuna is already officially a Second Division team, Arribas believes that “they practically thought it was impossible several matches ago. They’ve played the same, the same way, winning matches. They are a strong rival in their ground and it’s going to be a complicated game”.
He understood Dépor’s fans’ disappointment over the last two league defeats (in Anoeta and in Riazor against Real Madrid): “It’s not the season everyone expected, neither for the fans nor for the players, nor for the coaching staff, the both we’ve had this season, nor for the Club, nor for anyone. A season in which the aspirations we had of exceeding the points we made last season is almost impossible. We have the same frustration as everyone else”.
Along these lines, Arribas highlighted “everyone would love to have 50 points. The Club, the two coaches we’ve had, and the players have not lived up to people’s expectations. We will try to improve and work for next season, and try to solve this as soon as possible, if it can happen on Sunday, even better”.
He reiterated Pepe Mel’s words that Dépor runs a lot, but badly: “The figures say we run a lot, but we run out of tempo, late. If against Real Madrid I go to one side, I get there late, he passes it to another, I get there late again, and I always get to the ball late, in the end, they will win. We’re not running properly, with our teammates. It’s not a matter of whether we run more or less, because the kilometres are there. It’s as the coach said, we don’t run well”.
On a personal note, he sees himself in Deportivo next season: “I have two more years of contract. Everyone that has a contract has a commitment with the Club. Obviously, anything can happen after with any player in any team”.
Speaking about this season, Arribas stated, “I haven’t played as much as I actually wanted to, because I would have like to play more, especially at the beginning. I think I’ve had good, bad, and regular games. I’ve always left the pitch with my head held high because I’ve given my all”.
