Deportivo beat Racing de Ferrol by one goal in what was their first league encounter in almost 40 years. The match was decided in the early minutes by a spot-kick provoked and converted by debutant Diego Rolan.

Deportivo and Racing de Ferrol faced each other in an official match for the last time on 1 March for the 26th fixture of Group 1 Second Division B in the1980/1981 season. The Branquiazuis also won that day (1-2), although the match took place at the Manuel Rivera stadium.

Fernando Vázquez made two changes to last week's line-up against Guijuelo. Dépor's two Uruguayan players, Nacho González and Diego Rolan (who made his debut) came on for injured Keko and Miku.

Deportivo got off to a great start by creating several good chances in the first minutes. In the 4th minute, Nacho González controlled the ball with his chest to set Claudio Beauvue, whose belter ended in Diego Rivas' hands.

Shortly after, Diego Rolan advanced and cut into the left, but he was cut short as Yeferson Quintana handballed the ball. The referee gave the Deportivistas a spot-kick which Rolan did not hesitate in taking and fired an unstoppable shot. It took Diego Rolan 6 minutes to score his first goal as a Branquiazul player.

From that moment onwards it was a very level match with no clear chances. It wasn't until the 22nd minute that Racing de Ferrol felt they deserved a penalty due to a supposed handball. The referee did not punish the locals as Mujaid's arm was close to his body. Thus, the Branquiazuis quickly counter-attacked but Nacho González's acrobatic shot was called offside.

No changes were made on either side at half-time. However, Racing de Ferrol tried to engineer a turnaround, and 5 minutes into the second half, Pumar latched onto a cross from the right, he dragged his shot completely wide.

Fernando Vázquez saw the need to reinforce the defence, so Álex Bergantiños came on for Claudio Beauvue. The Branquiazul captain played between Mujaid and Borja Granero, forming a defence line of 5 men and Rolan as a centre-forward; pushing the team back and restricting them to only a handful of chances.

Deportivo gave some possession away but did not concede any clear goalscoring opportunities; the only threat came a free-kick, but Joselu's bullet header went straight to Carlos Abad's hands. They did, however, came close to snatching a late goal, but again, Carlos Abad to the rescue punched the ball away.

With this victory, the fourth in six games, Deportivo sits at the top of the table of Group 1A of the Segunda División B with 14 points. The Branquiazuis have not lost a game yet, and this is their fifth consecutive clean sheet.
