Lucas believes that #ONOSODERBI will be decided by “individual duels”

Lucas Perez was the centre of attention in Abegondo’s press room this morning, after Deportivo’s training session.

The Coruña forward confessed that everyone is “tense, very keen and excited for Deportivo to win” Saturday’s #ONOSODERBI at the Estadio ABANCA-RIAZOR (6:30 pm, Gol).

Asked about Iago Aspas’ statement, in which he said Celta was the best team in Galicia, Lucas was straight to the point: “There’s nothing to say. The history is there.”

Regarding the sky-blue team, the Deportivista forward believes “they have a great team. They play good football. In my opinion, they have less points than they actually deserve. I’ve seen several games where they lost points they shouldn’t have.

He expects the match to be “very tense, with a lot of rivalry. Everyone is enthusiastic. The match will be decided by individual duels. Whoever comes out better off. Let’s hope it’s us.”

The derby of his dreams is “winning. Scoring the winning goal, like every striker. What matters most is winning, having the same points as them or more, and having a calm Christmas holiday.”

Winning on Saturday would “uplift, motivate, and excite everyone in general. If the fans latch onto the derby's good result, and they carry on supporting us like up until now, it’s good for everyone.”

He highlighted that the fans “back us up as soon as you give them the minimum. And we appreciate it and understand, both myself and the squad.”

On a personal level, Lucas assured “I’m physically fine, much better than when I came. Psychologically, when things don’t turn out well collectively, I’m not happy with the way things are going.”

He recalled that throughout the league, “many matches were decided by individual mistakes or everyone’s mistakes, with Cristobal as well as Pepe (Mel). We all make mistakes, I’m the first one. And in football, these mistakes have driven us to where we are because of specific mistakes. What we have to do is work."
